Ctenanthe

Ctenanthe

Originating from tropical Brazil, these plants love a warm, humid environment to thrive in. Often referred to as the Brazilian Snow White, Ctenanthe are in the Maranta family, cousins with the Calathea so their care is similar. This green and yellow patterned plant can grow up to 3 feet in the right environment.

  • Light

Ctenanthe will appreciate a spot in a bright indirectly lit room. Too little light will result in the leaves being fully dark green rather than green and yellow. Too much light will cause the colors to fade.

  • Water

Keep the Ctenanthe evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 1” of the soil is dried out. Never let the whole plant dry out.

  • Humidity

High humidity is very important for Ctenanthe. Use a humidifier, mister, and/or pebble trays to create a humid environment for your plants.

  • Soil

Almost any well-draining potting mix will be sufficient for your Ctenanthe. Our go-to recommendation for a high-quality soil that’s fast draining is Fox Farms Ocean Forest.

  • Fertilizer

Fertilize your Ctenanthe once a month in the spring and summer months. No need to fertilize in the winter and fall.
